Has there reached you the story of Moses? -
Idh nādāhu rabbuhū bil-wādil-muqaddasi tuwā

Idhhab ilā fir'awna innahū taghā
"Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.
Faqul hal laka ilā an tazakkā
And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself
Wa ahdiyaka ilā rabbika fatakhshā
And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'"
Fa arāhul-āyatal-kubrā
And he showed him the greatest sign,1842

But he [i.e., Pharaoh] denied and disobeyed.
Thumma adbara yas'ā
Then he turned his back, striving [i.e., plotting].1843

Faqāla ana rabbukumul-a'lā
And said, "I am your most exalted lord."
Fa akhadhahullāhu nakālal-ākhirati wal-ūlā
So Allāh seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].1844.
Inna fī dhālika la'ibratal liman yakhshā
Indeed in that is a lesson [i.e., warning] for whoever would fear [Allāh].

Rafa'a samkahā fasawwāhā
He raised its ceiling and proportioned it.
Wa aghtasha laylahā wa akhraja duhāhā
And He darkened its night and extracted its brightness.1845
Wal-arda ba'da dhālika dahāhā
And after that He spread the earth.
Akhraja minhā mā'ahā wamar'āhā
He extracted from it its water and its pasture,
Wal-jibāla arsāhā
And the mountains He set firmly
Matā'al lakum wali'an'āmikum
As enjoyment [i.e., provision] for you and your grazing livestock.
Fa idhā jā'atit-tāmmatul-kubrā
But when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity1846 -
Yawma yatadhakkarul-insānu mā sa'ā
The Day when man will remember that for which he strove,
Waburrizatil-jahīmu liman yarā
And Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see -
Fa ammā man taghā
So as for he who transgressed
Wa ātharal-hayawātad-dunyā
And preferred the life of the world,
Fa innal-jahīma hiyal-ma'wā
Then indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge.

Wa ammā man khāfa maqāma rabbihī wanahan-nafsa 'anil-hawā
But as for he who feared the position of his Lord1847 and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,
Fa innal-jannata hiyal-ma'wā
Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.

To your Lord is its finality.1850
Innamā anta mundhiru man yakhshāhā
You are only a warner for those who fear it.
Ka annahum yawma yarawnahā lam yalbathū illā 'ashiyyatan aw duhāhā
It will be, on the Day they see it,1851 as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.

And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.1856

But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]

Innal-ladhīna ajramū kānū minal-ladhīna āmanū yadhakūn
Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.
Wa idhā marrū bihim yataghāmazūn
And when they passed by them, they would exchange derisive glances.
Wa idhanqalabū ilā ahlihimunqalabū fakihīn

Yā'ayyuhal-insānu innaka kādihun ilā rabbika kadhan famulāqīh
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion1891 and will meet it.1892
Fa ammā man ūtiya kitābahū biyamīnih
Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,
Fasawfa yuhāsabu hisāban yasīrā
He will be judged with an easy account
Wayanqalibu ilā ahlihī masrūrā
And return to his people in happiness.
Wa ammā man ūtiya kitābahū warā'a zahrih
But as for he who is given his record behind his back,
Fasawfa yad'ū thubūrā
He will cry out for destruction
Wayaslā sa'īrā
And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.
Innahū kāna fī ahlihī masrūrā
Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;
Innahū zanna al lan yahūr
Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].
Balā inna rabbahū kāna bihī basīrā
But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.
Falā uqsimu bish-shafaq
So I swear by the twilight glow
Wallayli wamā wasaq
And [by] the night and what it envelops
Wal-qamari idhat-tasaq
And [by] the moon when it becomes full
Latarkabunna tabaqan 'an tabaq
[That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.1893
Famā lahum lā yu'minūn
So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,
Wa idhā quri'a 'alayhimul-qur'ānu lā yasjudūn
And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?
Balil-ladhīna kafarū yukaddhibūn
But those who have disbelieved deny,
Wallāhu a'lamu bimā yū'ūn
And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.
Fabasshirhum bi'adhābin alīm
So give them tidings of a painful punishment,
Illal-ladhīna āmanū wa'amilus-sālihāti lahum ajrun ghayru mamnūn
Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.

And [by] the promised Day
Washāhidin wamashhūd
And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,
Qutila ashābul-ukhdūd
Destroyed [i.e., cursed] were the companions of the trench1895
An-nāri dhātil-waqūd
[Containing] the fire full of fuel,

When they were sitting near it.
Wahum 'alā mā yaf'alūna bil-mu'minīna shuhūd
And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses. 1896

Wamā naqamū minhum illā an yu'minū billāhil-'azīzil-hamīd
And they resented them not except because they believed in Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,

To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allāh, over all things, is Witness.1897
Innal-ladhīna fatanul-mu'minīna wal-mu'mināti thumma lam yatūbū falahum 'adhābu jahannama walahum 'adhābul-harīq
Indeed, those who have tortured1898 the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.
Innal-ladhīna āmanū wa'amilus-sālihāti lahum jannātun tajrī min tahtihal-anhāru dhālikal-fawzul-kabīr
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.
Inna batsha rabbika lashadīd
Indeed, the assault [i.e., vengeance] of your Lord is severe.
Innahū huwa yubdi'u wayu'īd
Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats.
Wahuwal-ghafūrul-wadūd
And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,
Dhul-'arshil-majīd
Honorable Owner of the Throne,
Fa''ālul limā yurīd
Effecter of what He intends.

[Those of] Pharaoh and Thamūd?

And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes?1917

So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.

Inna rabbaka labil-mirsād
Indeed, your Lord is in observation.
Fa ammal-insānu idhā mabtalāhu rabbuhū fa akramahū wana''amahū fayaqūlu rabbī akraman
And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."1918
