Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 October 2026

In short

Qabas has no accounts and no ads. We do not collect your name, email or contacts, and we do not sell or share any data for advertising.

What stays on your device

Your settings, bookmarks, memorization and khatma progress, reminders and downloaded recitations are saved on your phone only. Deleting the app deletes them.

Location

Your location is used to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. The calculation happens on your device.

To show the name of your city, the app sends your coordinates to a place-name service (OpenStreetMap Nominatim or BigDataCloud). If location is unavailable, it may estimate your approximate city from your internet address using ipapi.co. Searching for a city sends what you type to OpenStreetMap Nominatim.

Qabas does not store your location on any server of its own.

Recitations, translations and tafsir

Recitations are downloaded from everyayah.com and mp3quran.net, translations and tafsir from quran.com, and some mushaf fonts from jsDelivr. These services receive what any website receives when you visit it, such as your internet address.

Notifications

Prayer alerts, the athan and azkar reminders are scheduled on your device.

For general announcements (such as a new update) we use Firebase Cloud Messaging from Google. The app gets a device token and joins a general channel and one for your language. It is not linked to who you are.

Permissions

Location for prayer times and the Qibla. Notifications and exact alarms so the athan and reminders arrive on time. Battery optimization exemption so the system does not stop the alerts. You can revoke any of these in your phone settings.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date. To contact us, use the developer email on the Qabas page in Google Play.
