Surah Al-Jinn الجن

Translation: English Translation - Noor International Center

Qul ūhiya ilayya annahustama'a nafarum minal-jinni faqālū innā sami'nā qur'ānan 'ajabā

Say, [O Muḥammad], "It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, 'Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur’ān [i.e., recitation].

Yahdī ilar-rushdi fa'āmannā bihī walan nushrika birabbinā ahadā

It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.

Wa annahū ta'ālā jaddu rabbinā mat-takhadha sāhibatan walā waladā

And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son

Wa annahū kāna yaqūlu safīhunā 'alallāhi shatatā

And that our foolish one [i.e., Iblees]1766 has been saying about Allāh an excessive transgression.

Wa annā zanannā al lan taqūlal-insu wal-jinnu 'alallāhi kadhibā

And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allāh a lie.

And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden [i.e., sin].

Wa annahum zannū kamā zanantum al lan yab'athallāhu ahadā

And they had thought, as you thought, that Allāh would never send anyone [as a messenger].

Wa annā lamasnas-samā'a fawajadnāhā muli'at harasan shadīdan washuhubā

And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.

Wa annā kunnā naq'udu minhā maqā'ida lis-sam'i faman yastami'il-āna yajid lahū shihābar rasadā

And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing,1767 but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.

Wa annā lā nadrī asharrun urīda biman fil-ardi am arāda bihim rabbuhum rashadā

And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course.

Wa annā minnas-sālihūna waminnā dūna dhālika kunnā tarā'iqa qidadā

And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways.1768

And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allāh upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.

Wa annā lammā sami'nal-hudā āmannā bihī faman yu'mim birabbihī falā yakhāfu bakhsan walā rahaqā

And when we heard the guidance [i.e., the Qur’ān], we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord will not fear deprivation or burden.1769

Wa annā minnal-muslimūna waminnal-qāsitūna faman aslama fa ulā'ika taharraw rashadā

And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allāh], and among us are the unjust.1770 And whoever has become Muslim - those have sought out the right course.

Wa ammal-qāsitūna fakānū lijahannama hatabā

But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.'

Wa allawistaqāmū 'alat-tarīqati la asqaynāhum mā'an ghadaqā

And [Allāh revealed] that if they had remained straight on the way, We would have given them abundant rain [i.e., provision]

Llinaftinahum fīhi waman yu'rid 'an dhikri rabbihī yaslukhu 'adhāban sa'adā

So We might test them therein. And whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord1771 He will put into arduous punishment.

Wa annal-masājida lillāhi falā tad'ū ma'allāhi ahadā

And [He revealed] that the masjids1772 are for Allāh, so do not invoke1773 with Allāh anyone.

Wa annahū lammā qāma 'abdullāhi yad'ūhu kādū yakūnūna 'alayhi libadā

And that when the Servant [i.e., Prophet] of Allāh stood up supplicating Him, they almost became about him a compacted mass."1774

Qul innamā ad'ū rabbī walā ushriku bihī ahadā

Say, [O Muḥammad], "I only invoke my Lord and do not associate with Him anyone."

Qul innī lā amliku lakum darran walā rashadā

Say, "Indeed, I do not possess for you [the power of] harm or right direction."

Qul innī lan yujīranī minallāhi ahadun walan ajida min dūnihī multahadā

Say, "Indeed, there will never protect me from Allāh anyone [if I should disobey], nor will I find in other than Him a refuge.

Illā balāgham minallāhi warisālātihī waman ya'sillāha warasūlahū fa inna lahū nāra jahannama khālidīna fīhā abadā

But [I have for you] only notification from Allāh, and His messages." And whoever disobeys Allāh and His Messenger - then indeed, for him is the fire of Hell; they will abide therein forever.

Hattā idhā ra'aw mā yū'adūna fasaya'lamūna man ad'afu nāsiran wa aqallu 'adadā

[The disbelievers continue] until, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who is weaker in helpers and less in number.

Qul in adrī aqarībum mā tū'adūna am yaj'alu lahū rabbī amadā

Say, "I do not know if what you are promised is near or if my Lord will grant for it a [long] period."

'Ālimul-ghaybi falā yuzhiru 'alā ghaybihī ahadā

[He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone

Illā manirtadā mir rasūlin fa innahū yasluku mim bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihī rasadā

Except whom He has approved of messengers, and indeed, He sends before him [i.e., each messenger] and behind him observers1775

Lliya'lama an qad ablaghū risālāti rabbihim wa ahāta bimā ladayhim wa ahsā kulla shay'in 'adadā

That he [i.e., Muḥammad (ﷺ)] may know1776 that they have conveyed the messages of their Lord; and He has encompassed whatever is with them and has enumerated all things in number.
